A New Beginning for the Blackhawks?

Hawks Accept Arbitration Ruling

Unbelievable. Usually, they just let them go. Then again, they may be fixing to trade the 1st line Calder for a 3rd line "character player," so it may not be the step in the right direction that it appears to be at first glance.

Let's all hope that this is the start of a new era for Hawks management.

The Lieber Youth?

Sources:

Connecticut Senate Primary Blog

MyDD Blog

Next Tuesday, the Democrats in Connecticut are voting to either retain incumbent Senator Joseph Lieberman aka the 2000 running mate to the illustrious inventor of the Internet, Al Gore, or to replace him as the party nominee with one Ned Lamont.

What makes this race interesting is the fact that Lieberman has made it clear that if he loses the primary, he will run as an Independent. Also, his campaign has pulled out all the stops, even if if means using gutter tactics, to prevent a defeat.

The Lieberman campaign's youth group is called the "Lieber Youth" and conducts itself in a fairly aggressive fashion. Interestingly enough, during the existence of the Third Reich (1933-1945), the Nazi Party's youth group was called the "Hitler Youth." Needless to say, these were not nice kids.

Strange how a prominent American politician uses campaign tactics and even an official name that are highly reminiscent of those used in one of the most infamous, not to mention diabolical, dictatorships in world history.

Such is life in these strange times.

Blackhawks Through Wheeling and Dealing

The Blackhawks have finished up their trading/free agent pickups for this year and it is clear that, if anything, the team has gotten even worse. The Hawks have failed to make any blockbuster acquisitions and have made it clear that the almighty bottom line trumps even trying to achieve a winning season.

So it goes for fans of the most kleptocratic team in the NHL............

Why Are Obituaries Always Positive?

One thing that I've never been able to figure out is why obituaries are always so poisitive to the point that anything negative is always missing.

Here is a recent example. The late sportscaster Paul Eels was a man with a pronounced drinking problem and some convictions for driving under the influence. His latest bout with drinking and driving cost him his license.

However, this obituary neglected to mention Eels's alcoholism, his loss of a drivers license over a year ago, or whether or not drinking alcoholic beverages played any role in his demise.

Hopefully, the media will eventually get around to reporting on Eels's alcoholic life, but since he was a prominent member of the news media, don't bet your life on it.
