The Lieber Youth?

Next Tuesday, the Democrats in Connecticut are voting to either retain incumbent Senator Joseph Lieberman aka the 2000 running mate to the illustrious inventor of the Internet, Al Gore, or to replace him as the party nominee with one Ned Lamont.

What makes this race interesting is the fact that Lieberman has made it clear that if he loses the primary, he will run as an Independent. Also, his campaign has pulled out all the stops, even if if means using gutter tactics, to prevent a defeat.

The Lieberman campaign's youth group is called the "Lieber Youth" and conducts itself in a fairly aggressive fashion. Interestingly enough, during the existence of the Third Reich (1933-1945), the Nazi Party's youth group was called the "Hitler Youth." Needless to say, these were not nice kids.

Strange how a prominent American politician uses campaign tactics and even an official name that are highly reminiscent of those used in one of the most infamous, not to mention diabolical, dictatorships in world history.

Such is life in these strange times.
